Save on Summer Fun

*This post is sponsored by Groupon Coupons. All opinions are my own. #GrouponCoupons #ad Now that it's finally starting to warm up I cannot wait to get outside and enjoy the summer weather. I'm a bit of a wanderer, never content to stay in the same place very long, so I am ready to get out and explore the world around me. Since our budget is a bit tight right now I am constantly looking for new ways to save a little money without giving up all our summer fun. Here are a few ways that I plan to save money this summer! © Martinmark | Dreamstime.com - Summer vacation travel freedom concept Take Advantage of Local Parks This one is probably a little obvious, but  make use of any city or national park that you find. Most parks have free entry and you can save even more by packing a picnic lunch. I like to explore every park that I can. Also we go fishing, hiking, and play basketball. I know a few of our local parks even have free splash parks for kids. Parks are a great way to … [Read more...]

3 Comforting Biblical Truths When Dealing with Grief

comforting biblical truth

One of the hardest things to understand in life is death. I learned about it at a young age, and have experienced loss many times since. Death feels like a nightmare. And while each passing day after a loss is easier the pain is never fully gone. And the crazy thing is that God never meant for the world to experience death and the horror of losing a loved one. Yet here we are. Sin has brought us pain in the most horrible way possible. There is no greater pain than losing a loved one. And the worst pain of all is losing someone who is far to young to leave this Earth. Death turns our world upside down and leaves our heart with gaping holes. When dealing with death the only thing I know to do is turn to God. So today I am sharing with you three Biblical truths that comfort me when dealing with death. If you are dealing with grief today I am to encourage you to look to God for comfort and healing. God is Sovereign  Sovereignty simply means that God is in control. Even when … [Read more...]

Under the Sea Date Night with Walmart Family Mobile Plus and Swedish Fish

UndertheSea Date Night

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser, Walmart Family Mobile. All opinions are mine alone. #DataAndAMovie #FishandFlicks #CollectiveBias With all the rain we have been getting lately we are starting to feel like we belong in the ocean more than our cozy little house. We had hoped to get out and go to the park this weekend for date night but as the clouds opened up again Saturday morning we knew that it wasn’t going to happen. All the rain has me restless to do something fun and since we can’t beat the rain we decided to embrace it and have an Under the Sea date night right in our own living room! We grabbed a few chairs and a blue blanket and soon we had our own cozy little sea cove in which we could snuggle up and catch a movie. Luckily for us, earlier this week we purchased the Walmart Family Mobile PLUS Plan that includes a free movie rental from VUDU each month. With the Walmart Family Mobile PLUS Plan we get unlimited talk, … [Read more...]

That Time I Almost Drowned in the South China Sea

bible verse

Once when I was in the Philippines working as a missionary I went swimming in the South China Sea. Four friends and I went out on a little boat. Our plan was to snorkel and see the largest clams in the world. Perhaps this wasn’t the safest boat in the islands but it looked fine to us and so we tied on our life jackets and jumped in the water.  We made it almost to the clams when suddenly the tide changed and we found ourselves drifting out to sea at an alarming speed. No matter how hard we swam we could not make it back to the boat. We were helpless. Then out of nowhere a man with a small boat paddled to us and allowed us to hold the side of his boat while he took us back to our boat. He was a savior in our time of need. If he had not been there our trip could have had a potentially disastrous end. In the same way, God is our Savior in our time of need. He loves you and will not leave you stranded in the middle of your ‘sea.’ Whenever you feel like the tides of life are … [Read more...]

Why Festivals Make the Best Summer Date Nights

blooming onion

As we walked down 2nd Street my mind was overwhelmed by the sounds of festival music and the smells of BBQ cooking in the streets. In all the places In all the places I’ve lived I have never seen food prepared this way. Giant aluminum and wire stoves were place right over wood burning fires just feet from the courthouse lawn and Burgoo was being stirred in giant pots with what looked like wooden boards. It was an impressive sight to see. This is the Owensboro BBQ Festival and I’m pretty sure that Owensboro, Kentucky is one of the only places in the world where food is still prepared this way. They don’t call it the BBQ Capital of the world for nothing. Now that is what you call BBQ! A photo posted by Brittany Putman (@brittany.putman) on May 15, 2016 at 1:02pm PDT As we walked through the festival hand in hand, I began to think about how much fun festivals are. They really do make the best summer date nights. When I think of festivals I think of good food, loud music, … [Read more...]

It’s Time to Speak Up

sailor-570017_1920

What is going on with our world? How did we get so messed up? How are we, as Christians, supposed to live in peace with the current state of our world? America was founded on Christian principles, but we’ve lost them. Our president is issuing decrees without the approval of the Senate. Our children’s safety is jeopardized in the name of equality. Babies can be murdered if they aren’t wanted. Anyone can do anything, be anything, live anyway that they want. We are living in a world where boys can go into a girl’s school bathroom, but God is not even welcome in the lobby. Now, don’t misunderstand me, please. I am a conservative and I am a Christian but I do not hate the transgender community. I disagree with their lifestyle because the Bible teaches that it is wrong, but I don’t want them to be discriminated against. Do not misunderstand me. I love the woman who has chosen abortion and I want her to have the best life possible, but my heart is broken for the baby who will never … [Read more...]

5 Bible Devotional Apps To Keep You Focused On God

Best Bible Devotional Apps

I have a confession to make. Each morning when my alarm goes off the first thing that I do is pick up my phone and check any messages I missed while sleeping. I hate to even admit this! One of my first thoughts each day is my phone. And I think that maybe this is a little sad. I've only had a smart phone for about 6 months and I am already so dependent on it that it's the first thing I grab in the morning, and therefore, emails and social media are the first things that fill my mind when I wake up. I wish that this wasn't so. I wish that I could say that I reach for the Bible and that my first thought is Jesus but it often isn't. Yet I know that a word from our God is infinitely more important than a Facebook notification. And so it's time to make a change in my life. I want Bible to be the first thing I take in each morning. I've decided that the best way for me to do this is to download a Bible Devotional App on my phone and read that each morning. This way, I can have a few quiet … [Read more...]
