Supporting Your Spouse During a Family Crisis

Supporting Your Spouse During a Crisis

This past weekend was completely crazy. After finding out that my mom would be having another procedure on her heart last Thursday, Brian and I packed a bag and headed for Cincinnati on Sunday. We spent the day sitting around with my parents, sister, and brother-in-law and had a great day, even though we were all a little nervous! On Monday we got up at 4:30 am and headed to Cincinnati for the procedure. After several hours of waiting for my mom's turn in the cath lab we found out that her heart is 100% free of blockages and her previous stents are doing exactly what they are suppose to be doing. This is absolutely wonderful news, but it doesn't still doesn't solve the mystery of my mom has chest pain all the time. Throughout the entire ordeal I was so happy to have Brian by my side. He was willing to drop everything and go with me this weekend and that was amazing. We have been married just over a year and this is the first time that we have had to drop every and make the 4 hour ... read more

5 Things that Happen When You Trust God

What Happens when you trust God

Last December we found out that my mom had a clogged artery in her heart that only a stent would fix. We were all scared. Did you know that you are AWAKE when they put a stent in your heart. It was a horrible experience for her and it breaks my heart to know that she will probably have to go through that again. You can read about my mom's last surgery here. As soon as she got out of the hospital she started having chest pain again. The doctors thought that was strange but probably nothing. She went to cardiac therapy and someone told her that maybe she should go ahead and make an appointment with a cardiologist. She had a stress test and the results showed that there was definitely a problem. Now she has another cath lab scheduled with Dr. Keriakus on Monday morning. In fact, by the time you read this she might be done with the surgery. This isn't something that we want to do. We didn't plan for this and we definitely didn't expect it, but it's happening anyway. And when bad ... read more

Summer Missions [At Home] and Your Spouse

love-1472747_1920

Over the past few weeks we've talked about many different aspects of being a missionary right where you are. We've discussed finding your calling, the importance of sharing your story, and simple projects that you can do this summer. Today we are taking it one step further by talking about serving with your spouse. As I previously discussed here, marriage is a picture of the gospel in which the church is the bride and Jesus Christ is the groom. If we believe that this is true then we must also recognize that the purpose of marriage is to point to Christ.  You are called to be a missionary with your husband. Why Serve Together This Summer? In light of Biblical teaching we cannot deny that we have been called to be missionaries. Just look at the book of Acts. It's full of stories of how Jesus' disciples proclaimed the gospel to an unbelieving generation. Their story is over but Jesus' story is eternal so we must continue to carry the gospel to our generation. (Read more about ... read more

Even before I left my home in Ohio, moved to Louisville for school, and then moved to Owensboro for Brian, Kentucky was a part of my life. Both of my parents have roots in Kentucky and so my childhood is full of happy Kentucky road trip memories. There are still many places left for me to explore, but here are 10 amazing Kentucky road trip destinations that you need to visit! I have been to all of these places and I know that you will love them! Mammoth Cave. Mammoth Cave, Kentucky. Mammoth Cave is the longest cave system in the world. Not just in Kentucky, but in the world. So yeah, it deserves a place on this list. You can read about my latest trip to Mammoth Cave here. Yahoo Falls. McCreary County, Kentucky. Yahoo Falls is a smaller waterfall but it is absolutely beautiful. Water falls 113 feet at this magnificent site. But the real reason to visit Yahoo Falls is the history behind it. Summer at Grace, Love, Life + an Awesome Giveaway

Happy Friday, everyone! I hope you have had a great week and will have lots of time to spend with your family this weekend for Independence Day. Summer is such a fun time, and busy, time of year so I thought I would take a few minutes to let you know what new with me and at Grace, Love, Life. What's New at Home -I finally got the flower garden cleaned up and put down fresh mulch. This was a BIG job since earlier in the year Brian spread seed and feed all over our yard. The seed and feed got rid of all the dandelions but it also threw grass seed into my flower bed. It was a jungle! But after several hours of pulling out grass and adding mulch it's finally looking like a flower bed again. I finally got my flower bed cleaned up and looking good! Now if I can just get it to rain... A photo posted by Brittany Putman (@brittany.putman) on Jun 30, 2016 at 12:02pm PDT -I went swimsuit shopping. You would think that shopping would be fun but nope. 30 Mission Projects You Can Do [at Home] this Summer + A Giveaway!

Happy girl and her boyfriend in hats and sunglasses looking at one another with smiles outdoors

Whenever I think of missions I automatically think of overseas mission trips. I love travel, adventure, learning about new cultures, working with people in desperate need, and sharing Jesus with those who do not know Him. Being a missionary is exciting and traveling to distant countries makes me bold to share the gospel. But in my own town? I am not so excited to share the gospel and I am not bold at all. I hate to admit this but it's true. And I know I'm not the only one. If you read last week's post then you know that sharing your story with others can be scary but it is very important. Two week's ago we learned that you are called to be a missionary right where you are. So today I am sharing ways that you can be a missionary right where you are. Designed by Freepik Take a cooler full of water or Popsicles to the park and hand them out. Invite those who accept your gift to church. Ask your church where you can serve. Your church will gladly help you find a place ... read more

What is Biblical Marriage?

Portrait of happy dates in coats embracing outdoors

Before Brian and I got married we talked about what we expected from our marriage and each other. We come from 2 very different families so naturally we made compromises about some things but we knew for sure that we wanted a Biblical marriage. But what exactly does it mean to have a Biblical marriage? Biblical marriage is a term that we throw around a lot but do we really understand what that means? Today we are going to attempt to break down what it actually means to have a Biblical marriage. This post is quite long but I think it's good and I've had a lot of help breaking down what Biblical marriage is! Christ is at the Center Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate. Mark 10:9 Be completely humble and gentle; Be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the spirit through the bond of peace. Ephesians 4:2-3 What it means: If you are a christian then Christ is the center of everything that you do. If Christ is ... read more

Summer Missions [at Home]: Your Story Matters

Summer Missions at Home - Your Story Matters

One sweet summer, six years ago, I found myself sitting in a small village church home in the Philippines. I can't remember the name of the town but I do remember that it was raining that as we walked from home to home yelling for the children to come to church. I remember the songs we sang-some in English and some in Tagalog. I remember the crowded, brightly colored Jeepney that carried us from our temporary home at a school and orphanage to the small village. The Open Door Church, school, and orphanage buildings were all intertwined surrounded a basketball court and the church sanctuary was on the fourth floor above the classrooms and children's dormitories. Each Sunday morning we would join the service, which was in Tagalog. We would often teach the children, which could be a challenge since we spoke different languages. It was after this church service and lunch that we would head out to the village to attend a small house church. I was always filled with excitement on these ... read more
