It’s May! That means that summer is only a few weeks away. No matter how much I try to keep myself focused, I can’t help but daydream about vacation and time with my family in a few weeks.
But before my parents arrive in just under 2 weeks, I have a little bit of cleaning to do. Spring cleaning you might call it! On a good day, I can get our whole house clean in 2 hours. That includes dusting, vacuuming, picking up, cleaning the bathroom and kitchen, and mopping. Things like laundry and dishes happen on a daily basis, at least most of the time! But spring cleaning is different. It requires planning because it’s one of the only times of the year where I’ll empty Tupperware cabinets and organize the hallway closets.
Honestly, I hate cleaning but I love a clean house. That’s why I’ve come up with a few simple ways to keep my house clean with the least amount of effort as possible. These ‘cleaning hacks’ can’t replace spring cleaning, but they can make my home a little bit healthier for my family.
Plus, I’m giving away a lovely Elora Himalayan Salt Lamp to one lucky winner! Make sure you enter the giveaway at the bottom of the page!
Replace Chemical Based Cleaning Products with Natural Products
My favorite natural cleaner is peppermint oil spray. I mix a few drops of dish soap, a few drops of peppermint essential oils, and warm water in a spray bottle and clean hard surfaces in my house with it. I even clean my kitchen counters with it and spray it around my doors and windows to keep bugs out.
Open Your Windows
Ok. I know this is really simple but opening your windows on a warm, breezy day is a great way to freshen up your home and breathe a little easier.
Clean Your Bathtub with Dawn Dish Soap
For whatever reason, our bathtub collects soap scum faster than any other tub I’ve ever seen. I HATE scrubbing the bathtub so I started cleaning it with different things until I found something that really works. Dawn works on greasy dishes and it works on a bathtub. I just let the shower run for a minute to get the bathtub wet, then squirt dish soap all around the tub and scrub it off. It does leave the tub a little slippery so be careful!
Use a Himalayan Salt Lamp
Believe it or not, a Himalayan Salt Lamp cleans your air and makes it healthier to breathe. Here’s hot it works. The Himalayan Pink Salt Lamp absorbs water, particles, and positive ions from the air. The warm salt lamp releases clean air and water vapor back into the air.
I’ve had mine for about 2 weeks and I love it! I turn it on in the evenings around 9 and Brian will turn it off when he comes to bed around 11. The pink glow is relaxing and I sleep easy knowing the air around me is being cleaned.
Today, I have the opportunity to give away an Elora Himalayan Pink Salt Lamp from Levoit, just like mine. This salt lamp has been created with the best salt crystals available so that it emits a soothing amber glow. The stainless steel base won’t tarnish over time and perfectly hides the drainage technology that manages moisture build up. The lamp is turned on, off, and dimmed with the touch of a button. Safety matters to the Levoit company so the power cable was created to withstand hours of use. This is a quality product and you can count on Levoit to create quality products that you don’t have to worry about.
Clean Dishwasher with Vinegar
Place a cup of vinegar on the top rack of your dishwasher and run it with hot water. It’s so much easier than scrubbing it clean!
Attach a Rag to a Broom to Get Rid of Cobwebs
We have really high ceilings in our living room and it’s nearly impossible to get all the cobwebs. Make your own duster by wrapping a microfiber cloth around the broom and securing it with a rubber band.
Wipe a baseboard each time you Throw a Towel in the Laundry
About once a week I throw out the hand towel from the bathroom and whenever I do, a use it to dust a baseboard before I through it in the laundry bin. It just takes a minute but over time eliminates a lot of dust that I wouldn’t notice otherwise.
Now for the fun part. Levoit is giving away an Elora Himalayan Pink Salt Lamp to one of my readers! The giveaway will run from May 7th to May 15th! The winner will be announced by May 17th! You can enter through the rafflecopter below. Happy entering!
