Marriage is the greatest adventure I have ever been on! I had no clue what I was getting myself into when I said ‘I do’ but I am so glad I did.
‘Confessions of a Newlywed’ is a series celebrating the life of the newlywed. We are here to share our encouraging and sometimes funny stories and helpful advice. You can read more stories and submit your own confessions here.
Tell us a little about yourself and your blog.
I am a blogger, newlywed, and a child of God. My passions are missions and education, and am currently student teaching in grade 3/4. I consume much caffeine and love diving into scripture. I just recently opened an Etsy shop (Rose & Bliss Creative), and love to make handmade items to sell.
My blog is a collection of relationship advice, recipes, and book reviews. I write about my life as a newlywed, and as a teacher, as well.
When did you get married?
December 19th, 2015 – two days after my final semester of university!
Tell us a little about your husband. What do you love about him?
My husband was born in Hong Kong, and came to Canada back in his teen years. He and I met at our university, and became friends later on. I love his wonderful personality – he’s such a people person, and is the extrovert to my introverted self. He helps me see the best in myself and those around me, and leads me well in our home.
What Confessions Would you like to make about being a Newlywed?
Being a newlywed is… tough. It’s a whole lot of fighting FOR your relationship, and throwing aside the lures of popular culture. It’s really not as pretty and refined as media would make it seem. We’ve argued, we’ve cried, and we’ve made up. And we get up, and try again.
Do you have any advice to share with us?
No matter how much you love your spouse, you’re going to mess up. He’s going to mess up. Your marriage is built with two sinful, flawed people; it’s inevitable that things are going to happen. But don’t make quitting a choice. When you allow quitting to become a choice, it becomes easier and easier to actually quit and leave. Don’t be a quitter; be a constant in your spouse’s life.
What is the best thing about Newlywed life?
Breakfast in bed on the weekends! We love to sleep in on Saturday, make breakfast, and then go snuggle in bed – snuggling is so necessary! Spending time with my new husband is most definitely the best thing – especially since we were long-distance dating for 10 months!
I love the idea of breakfast in bed each weekend! That sounds like an awesome thing to do! Alannah’s advice is so true: We are going to mess up but that is ok as long as we never stop fighting for our marriages.
