“A good marriage isn’t something you find; it’s something you make and you have to keep on making it.” – Gary Thomas
A few months ago we decided that we needed to start having weekly date nights. It sure is tricky to do that when you have two babies, live out of town a bit, and have a budget. So, we figured we would do only one night a month out and the rest are at home.
The kids go to bed and we snuggle on the couch to watch a movie. This is our PERFECT date. We love it. I know that people say you should mix it up a bit, but really, this is how we connect the most. During the movie, we have the opportunity to play a game, eat, or talk about whatever we want. It’s kind of a win-win.
With the holidays upon us, and three months into our weekly dates, I asked the hubs if it would be okay to change it up a bit. I wasn’t bored, but I really like to do different things and he doesn’t, so I was feeling a little bit stifled.
We came up with a list of holiday activities that we could do. One of the activities was a cookie baking contest. Now, I am not sure AT ALL why my husband picked this one, but he did. He does not cook. I mean. He even wants ME to microwave his leftovers. So, I did what any loving, doting wife would do. I said OKAY!
I thought long and hard about what my cookie would be. He chose sugar and I decided on Oreo Stuffed Chocolate Chip. Hands down, I’m the winner, right?!
Well, just because someone refuses to cook doesn’t mean they can’t. The hubs is a meticulous direction follower and was able to turn out dozens of delicious and soft sugar cookies.
My cookies weren’t bad, but if you are looking for a sugar coma, they are the way to go!
How to Have a Cookie Date
- Choose a cookie (I recommend that you choose something that the judges will like.)
- Make a shopping list and buy ingredients (I wanted to make the hubs get his own ingredients as well, but then changed my mind because who wants to get THAT crazy?)
- Set a date and make the cookies (We waited until my parents were here so they could judge… I know their favorites for next time!)
- Take official date night picture (for the records, of course!)
Now, next year I will do a few things differently. We tried to mix everything at the same time, but I only have one mixer. So, we will have to do it in stages. I will also pick a more traditional holiday cookie.
Having this time together was so fun! I cannot wait to do it again and again! Keeping our love alive is my favorite!!
What kinds of dates or activities do you do around the holidays to keep your love alive?
