I know what you’re thinking.
Date night at a grocery store? Lame.
But you only think that because who haven’t been to Jungle Jim’s. Jungle Jim’s isn’t so much a grocery store as it is a jungle experience feature groceries from around the world. Once you reach the parking lot you’ll begin to hear the sounds of jungle creatures calling out to you from above. As you reach the front door you’ll be greeted by an assortment of animals including this lovely gorilla and rhino.
Once inside you’ll be met by any assortment of boats and airplanes such as this one that is powered by hot sauce.
And this boat that is being guarded by what appears to be a Lego Man Pirate.
There are rows of common grocery items and also a large selection of food from around the world. This is the only on this side of the Pacific that I have found Rambutan and my other favorite Filipino treats. So naturally I love this store. You just never know what you’ll see when you’re here.
Soon we find ourselves in the hot sauce section. This is Brian’s favorite and we usually end up taking home a bottle or two of whatever looks the most interesting. Right now we have a bottle of Ghost Pepper Sauce with a warning label that warns of possible death. He’s only had a few drops of it and can still attest to it’s mouth-melting powers. You’d think he would learn! I guess it’s a good thing that they have this fire truck standing by in case of emergencies.
Among the rows of sauce we found some from our very own, Moonlite Bar-B-Q of Owensboro, Kentucky.
We also found these menacing looking Pirate sauces.
In a store with so many sauces, how can you pick just one?
Once you get tired of looking at mouth-melting sauces you move on to Jungle Jim’s large selection of soft drinks. These sodas got our attention but we decided not to try them. I mean, we’re not that crazy.
Jungle Jim’s also sells fresh meat and fish and runs a bakery. These treats look crazy delicious to me.
As you stroll the grocery aisles you will continue to see any number of displays. Here we have Roadrunner and the Jelly Belly Car.
Here is my beloved fruit and veggie section. I don’t even like cauliflower and those looked so good I wanted to take one home. Again, they have a nice mix of common and uncommon foods. One of these days we are going to get brave and give the Durian fruit a try. I’ve actually heard that it’s quite sweet if you can get past the smell! This would be a great date night challenge for another day I think!
Lastly…you have to check out the bathrooms. I know that sounds funny but just do it. Just go. I know it’s weird to see an indoor porta-potty but I promise that you won’t be disappointed! Ha!
Well folks, that’s Jungle Jim’s. Each time we visit my family in Ohio we try to make a trip here. There are two locations in Cincinnati. One on the east side of the city and one on the west side. Friends, if you ever find yourself in Cincy check it out! I’d love to hear what you think.
Do you have any quirky, fun date night places? I’d love to hear about them and maybe someday check them out!
I believe that dating my husband is an essential part of our marriage. Sometimes we get tired of boring old dinner-and-a-movie dates and so we go to interesting places like Jungle Jim’s. When we find hidden gems like Jungle Jim’s we’ll be sharing them with you! I’d love for you to follow along on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest as we live the newlywed life.
