Every year, right after Thanksgiving, my family bundles up and takes a trip to the Rossmann’s Christmas Tree Farm. This is the start of Christmas for us and a great way to bring the family together. With my older sister and I living so far away from my parents and younger sister, we are only altogether a few times each year and I am so glad that we were all able to be together to find and decorate the perfect family Christmas tree.
So today, I’m sharing a few tips to help you find the perfect Christmas tree.
Please forgive all the blurry pics in this post! I forgot my camera and had to rely on my phone. Yikes!
1.You’ll need to go to an actual Christmas tree farm. Don’t settle for a pre-cut Home Depot tree. If you want the freshest tree possible and the greatest experience then you need to find a real Christmas tree farm. If you live near Southern Ohio then I suggest Rossmann’s Christmas Tree Farm. They are so friendly and my family has been going there for years.
2.Take as many family members with you as possible. The more the merrier and there is nothing more fun than seeing little eyes full of wonder.
3.Look around the entire farm before you make a decision. Yes, it will be cold, but the fun is in the adventure so look at all the trees before you decide. Make sure you find a tree that’s not too tall or not wide. Make sure it has a straight trunk and no bare spots.
4.Once you find the perfect tree, you need to chop it down. Thankfully we had lots of little helpers around! Dad chopped the tree down and they all helped get it on the sled. Those trees are heavy! So you’ll want to have lots of adult helpers as well.
5.Once you get the tree back to the barn, you’ll hand it off to the professionals to shake the extra pine needles out. This step is very important! One year, we had a bat in our tree! The tree was up and decorated before we found a day or two later. Talk about a surprise! If you are really lucky, you might even get to put the button.
6.Once you get the perfect Christmas tree home, you’ll need to drag all the decorations and get to work. You’ll want to put the lights on first. Make sure that you assign someone the job of keeping the baby happy. Also, make sure that the lights work before you get them on the tree!
7.You’ll need the perfect Angel for the perfect Christmas tree. Make sure it fits or else you’ll scrap the ceiling!
8.After 36 years of marriage, my parents have many, many ornaments so the more help getting them on the tree the better!
9.Everyone has a place when it comes to decorating the perfect Christmas tree. This year is baby’s first Christmas so that is really special.
What do you think of our family Christmas tree? Do you have a live or artificial tree? We had so much fun finding the perfect Christmas tree together and I really do love and support the Rossmann’s Christmas Tree Farm. Later this week I’ll be sharing more about Brian and me’s Christmas tree so make sure you follow along on Facebook so you never miss a post.
