Working the 9 to 5 is NOT easy. Even if you do love your job, there are still days when it would be better, easier to stay in bed. But life should be more than that. I am still young and I don’t want the mundane to take over my life. I don’t want today to be simply ordinary. I want extraordinary and I believe that every day can be extraordinary if you refuse to settle for boring days. So today I am sharing my secret formula for having the best day ever. When I follow these five steps my day is much happier and I have a great day.
Start it off Right. Set your alarm before you go to bed and make sure that you have time to actually wake up before you rush out the door. I am not a morning person so this one is always hard for me, but I do make an effort to have time to actually get ready and have a few minutes for myself each morning. First of all, you need some time with God. Ideally this is a full devotional time, but if you would rather do that later in the day you need at least a few minutes to thank God for a new day and soak up some scripture. I also like to take a few minutes to stretch before I jump in the shower. It helps me wake up and feel healthier. A healthy breakfast is a must. For me, it usually is some sausage and fruit, or oatmeal and a good cup of coffee. Your body needs fuel if you are going to have the best day ever. Sit down and eat instead of grabbing something that you can eat on the way.
Have a Positive Attitude. You are in control of your attitude and therefore you can decide what kind of an attitude that you want to be in. Tell yourself: I will be happy today because I deserve to be happy and no one can change that. Surround yourself with whatever makes you happy. I have pictures of my family on my desk so I can see them whenever I want and I use a coffee mug that my niece gave me. These little things remind me of how blessed I really am. Whenever I am having a really bad day I pray that God would help me turn it around. If you can change your attitude you can change your whole outlook on life.
Take Care of Yourself. Take care of yourself mentally, spiritually, and physically every day. Make it a priority. You need time to think and process your day and to simply relax so give your brain that down time. The Bible says that your body is a temple so treat it like one. Make time for some exercise, drink plenty of water, and eat healthy food. Taking care of your body may take some time but it is a sacrifice that you should make because it will pay off in the long run. You will feel better, look better, and have more energy if you take care of yourself. You need time to grow spiritually so give yourself that time. Make it your top priority and fight to keep it there. Study your Bible and let God speak to you.
Give Back. Kindness and happiness are contagious. Make an effort to do one nice thing for someone else each day. It could be anything. A text to a friend, take cookies to work, do one of your spouse’s chores, etc. Don’t do it for the praise, just do it. If you are going to have the best day ever then you’ll want others to join up in the happiness. Just spread some sunshine and you’ll be happier. Trust me on this one.
End the Day Right. Try not to work yourself until bedtime. I always need the three R’s: Relax, Reflect, and Reconnect. I need to relax for a few minutes and let the day sink in. I need to reflect on what happened today so that I can figure out what I need to do tomorrow. I need to reconnect with God and my husband. I need God because I always need God. I need my husband because I want our relationship to be strong and I want to know what I need to do in order to be a good wife to him.
Ok, so maybe Monday will never be as exciting as Saturday and Tuesday staff meeting will never be as good as Sunday afternoon nap, but each day is a gift from God and we should make the most of it. With a little planning and a lot of positive attitude vibes you can have the best day ever every day of the week.
To help you out a little, I have created some Bible Verse Cards that you can print out and place around your home and office. Each card has a Bible Verse that will encourage you to keep smiling and trusting God all day long.
What do you do to have the best day ever? Do you think it’s possible to make everyday fabulous? I’d love to hear what you are doing to keep the joy in every day.
