Ever find yourself wishing that you could just be a kid again for a few hours? Or maybe you find yourself reminiscing about Saturday morning cartoons and days when your only plans were to catch the ice cream truck. Sigh. Those were the good old days. Being an adult definitely has its perks but let’s be real: being a kid is awesome.
So for this week’s date night we are taking it way, way back and spending our date night pretending to be kids again. In order to have a successful let’s be kids again date night you will need a combination of cartoons, kid approved foods, childhood games, and imagination.
Keep things kid-friendly with a dinner of hot dogs, mac and cheese, apple slices, and juice boxes. Feel free to eat with your fingers as much as possible, use plastic or paper plates, and play with your food! Whatever you do just keep it fun and don’t worry about making, or cleaning up, a mess. If you’re feeling particularly childlike have a food fight! This is probably one of the only dates you’ll ever go on where a food fight is perfectly acceptable!
After dinner take a trip to the nearest grocery store and raid the candy aisle. Walk or ride your bike there if you can! I have fond memories of walking to the corner store and buying candy when I was little and I’m sure many of you do too. For this one night don’t worry about your sugar intake and eat whatever you want. Or make it a contest to see who can find the most interesting candy choices.
Think of your favorite childhood games. If you have any of these games around your house then sit down and play a round or two with your spouse while you munch on your candy. If you don’t have any games then go play duck, duck, goose or tag for a while. You can also check out your local Goodwill store for an old game.
Once you are tired of playing games curl up on the couch and cuddle while you watch some of your favorite cartoons. Lots of old cartoons can be found on Youtube. If you feel like taking a nap go for it! You are a kid again!
This Date Night comes with a printable to help you organize and plan your evening. You can download that <<<here>>>.
The thing that I love about this date night is that it is so simple and so versatile. I didn’t know my husband when he was a kid so while we watched cartoon and played games we were able to share funny childhood memories. If you have kids they could definitely be included in your Let’s Be Kids Again Date Night as well!
Since you are reliving your childhood be creative and do whatever makes you happy. For example you could color, go play on a playground, build with blocks, or blow bubbles.
Forget about the stress of adulthood just for one day and go be a kid again. You may even have more fun during your second childhood because your spouse is with you now!
If you could relive any one aspect of your childhood, what would it be?
