Two years ago I found myself living in Louisville with two sweet roommates. I was teaching 6th grade, in love with my church family, and had no clue what I was going to do with my life. I found myself on the teetering back and forth between moving back home, moving further away, or just staying put. It was a difficult stage of life to say the least.
Then my roomie started dating a man that she met through an online dating site. At first I thought she was crazy, but as it turned out he was a pretty nice guy. And so I took a chance. I signed up for an online dating site and waited to see what would happen.
Now let me say a thing or two about online dating. There are plenty of creeps out there so you have to be careful when talking to anyone online! I tried it for a few months and didn’t have any luck so I decided to give up. I didn’t delete my online account but I wasn’t paying for it so I couldn’t read any of messages. When I saw a message from a boy named Brian I decided to ignore it because I really didn’t want to waste anymore money on that silly online dating site. That lasted about 4 days and then curiosity got the best of me and I paid the website for one more month of membership and began talking to Brian. As I’m sure you can guess by now, I am very glad that I did!
After 2 months of emailing back and forth Brian came to Louisville to meet me. I’d like to say our first date was perfect but it was a little rocky. He was late. We couldn’t find parking at the Cheesecake Factory and then couldn’t get a table. We eventually ended up at Chili’s. Things didn’t go as planned, but I liked him just the same.
He lived two hours away in Owensboro and so we continued to visit on the weekends for the next four months. I wanted to take things slow. My heart had been broken before and so I didn’t let myself believe he could be the one. As we approached July 4, 2014, Brian told me that he wanted to take me somewhere fancy for the holiday and that I should wear a nice dress. In the back of my mind I wondered if he might propose but I didn’t dare speak a word of it.
On the 4th of July I got all dressed up and he took me to the ‘mystery location’ which turned out to be a park gazebo all decorated with flag and flowers. Sandwiches were placed on a plate and when I lifted them up I saw the words, ‘Brian and Brittany, Engaged July 4, 2014.’ As soon as I saw the plate Brian proposed and I finally let myself believe that he was the one.
Soon we bought a house and I moved in by myself until the wedding. We spent our days planning our future and dreaming of our wedding. We married on April 11, 2015, which just so happens to be my parent’s 35th wedding anniversary.
Now we have been married over 10 months and I am happier than I have ever been. Sure, marriage is tough but it is so worth it! I never would have imagined that I would meet and fall in love with someone that I met online but here we are! I spent many years waiting for the right man for me and I am so glad that I finally found him.
Brian is truly my other half. We have so much fun together whether it be sitting at home watching Big Bang Theory or out exploring new stores and restaurants. I thank God every day for bringing us together and I cannot wait to see what the future holds for us.
