Now that it’s finally starting to warm up I cannot wait to get outside and enjoy the summer weather. I’m a bit of a wanderer, never content to stay in the same place very long, so I am ready to get out and explore the world around me. Since our budget is a bit tight right now I am constantly looking for new ways to save a little money without giving up all our summer fun. Here are a few ways that I plan to save money this summer!

Take Advantage of Local Parks
This one is probably a little obvious, but make use of any city or national park that you find. Most parks have free entry and you can save even more by packing a picnic lunch. I like to explore every park that I can. Also we go fishing, hiking, and play basketball. I know a few of our local parks even have free splash parks for kids. Parks are a great way to have summer fun without spending money.
Checkout Local Festivals and Events
Our city has a website listing many free events over the summer. It takes a little planning but we take advantage of these free events whenever they are in town. Last year we were able to visit the Air Show, BBQ Festival, Friday Night Concerts in the Park, The Art Festival, and several other events all for free! Now, we did spend a little money on food during these trips but the free entry makes these Festivals perfect for summer fun on a budget.
Check Out Groupon Coupons
Groupon Coupons is a website that allows you to download and print coupons for your things that you are already planning to buy. Whenever planning a road trip or a night out I get on Groupon to see what they have available. In the past we have been able to save on nice restaurants, special events such as plays that have come to our town, and the zoo! These are all places that we planned on going to anyway so using the Groupon Coupon was a no-brainer. We definitely check Groupon Coupons before any vacation and in doing so we have been able to save quite a bit of money on hotels, attractions, and food.
Groupon also has coupons available for stores that we regularly shop at such as Kohl’s, JCPenney, and Rue21 which really helps with shopping for cute summer outfits. Which reminds me that I need to find a Groupon coupon right now so I can go find myself a new swimsuit. Swimsuit shopping isn’t my favorite thing to do but at least I know I won’t be paying full price for one!
Now, if you’ll excuse me I need to go make a pitcher of sweet tea and go sit on the porch and soak up as many of the sights, sounds, and smells of summer as possible.
