Every time I stroll through Smother’s Park I find something new. Sometimes, it is something simple, such as a statue I never noticed before, and other times it is more complex, such as a new festival lining the streets. But each time I visit Smother’s I feel relaxed and happy to call Owensboro my home.
Last week, as we strolled downtown for the Holidays we were met by carolers, pretty lights, and ice sculptures. If it wasn’t for the warm weather it would have felt down right Christmasy. Marrying Brian was my choice and Owensboro has been an added perk.
I have convinced you to visit Owensboro yet? If not, keep reading. I’ll win you over! Here are my top five reasons that you must visit Owensboro!
Smother’s Park is the Number 1 Park in the World. Yes you read that right. Lazy Days Playground at Smother’s Park is so awesome that it has been voted Number 1 Park in the World. Let your kids come and play in the trees or cool off in the splash park.
- Every time I turn around there is a new statue downtown. Most of them make me stop and think, what is that? Usually I’m asking questions like, “Why is this giant head in the middle of the park?” It’s a fun conversation starter for sure.
Lots of Festivals. It seems like there is a festival at least once a month. We’ve been to the Holiday Stroll, BBQ Festival, Air Show, and Art Festival. Something is always going on and it is so much fun to live in a town where there is always something to do.
The River. I’ve always felt at peace when I’m by the water. I love the views of the river from Smother’s because there aren’t any buildings around. Swinging benches line the river and make for a perfect place to view the sunset.
If you were to come to Owensboro how would you want to spend the day?
